AQUATIC SPOTLIGHT

WALNUT CREEK MASTERS

Clarke Swim Center is the home of the Walnut Creek Masters, an adult competitive swim team of nearly 400 members ages 19-90. Known throughout the swimming world for their competitive accomplishments at the local, national, and international levels, they are easily recognized for their spirit and camaraderie wherever their travels take them. Team members packed their bags for recent meets at Seattle, Orlando, Indianapolis, England, Maui and Morocco. This year, 11 members of the team will compete in the Ironman triathlon led by world-renowned triathlete Wendy Ingraham. However, competition is optional and only one of the cornerstones on which this and all masters programs are built upon.

Each week, members have the opportunity to participate in 25 scheduled workouts overseen by a professional staff of coaches. Here the daily emphasis is on improving stroke technique, health and fitness. A supportive group atmosphere promotes self-confidence, race preparation and fun.

Anyone looking for a program to improve cardiovascular health, a social outlet, or the fun and challenge of competition at all levels is encouraged to come and talk with the coaches, observe a practice, or just jump in and give it a try. All ages and abilities are welcome.
